Choosing the Correct Size Penile Clamp:

  • The Cunningham Male Incontinence Penile Clamp is available in 3 sizes: large, regular, or juvenile.
  • Measure the area around the shaft of your penis. Compress the penis slightly while measuring.
  • To achieve the right amount of compression gently press the middle of your shaft with your thumb and forefinger.
  • Apply as much pressure as is necessary to stop the flow of urine. Then, measure the area around your shaft using a tape measure.
  • If your shaft is 3 inches, you will need the large clamp.
  • If your shaft is 2 inches, you will need the regular clamp.
  • If your shaft is 1½ inches, you will need the juvenile clamp.

  • Tighten the clamp to compress your urethra.
  • The large and regular clamps each have 5 settings that adjust the pressure on your urethra.
  • Use the ratchet catch to adjust the pressure. To release the catch, press inward on both of the spring wire loops. The juvenile clamp is not adjustable.
  • You can shape the upper foam pad with the help of your fingers to help it fit better and feel more comfortable.
  • Release your clamp when you want to urinate.
  • After urinating, put your clamp back on to prevent dribbling. If possible, place the clamp on a slightly different part of your shaft.

Instructions for Proper Use

  • Release the penile clamp in every 1 to 2 hours and allow the blocked urine to flow out. This is important in order to avoid urinary tract infections.
  • Reposition the clamp every 2 hours. Do not leave the penile clamp on at the same position for very long.
  • Do not use the Cunningham penile clamp at night. You can use adult Urinary pads instead to control leakages.
  • The clamp must not be fitted too tight to your penis to help maintain the circulation of blood and prevent skin irritation. To use the penile clamp the user must have proper sensation in the penis so that he can feel anything irritating or painful.
  • Always inspect the clamp for signs of deterioration or damage like cracking, discoloration or separation of foam after repeated use.
