When to use 3M Tegaderm Dressing?

Suggested Application:

Dressings for wounds, to protect skin and for use over IV catheters and other intravascular and percutaneous devices

Indications:

The 3M Tegaderm Pad Film Dressing with Non-Adherent Pad is designed for covering acute wounds such as cuts, superficial and partial-thickness burns, abrasions, IV catheter sites, and surgical incisions.
It is also designed for covering low exuding superficial and partial-thickness chronic wounds including pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers. Follow your “gauze and tape” protocol for use.

Instructions for use:

Dressing selection: Choose a dressing size large enough to provide a margin that adheres to dry healthy skin around the catheter or wound site.

Prepare the site according to institution protocol.
Clipping of hair at the site may improve adhesion. Shaving is not recommended.
Allow all prep liquids to completely dry before applying the dressing to prevent skin irritation and ensure goodbadhesion.

Open package and remove sterile dressing.
Peel the paper liner from the paper-framed dressing, exposing the adhesive surface.
Position the framed window over the wound site or catheter insertion site and apply dressing.
Press the dressing into place.
Remove the paper frame from the dressing while smoothing down the dressing edges. Seal securely around catheter or wound site. Firmly smooth adhesive border to the skin.

The site should be observed for signs of infection or other complications. If infection is suspected, remove the dressing, inspect the site directly, and determine appropriate medical intervention. Infection may be signaled by fever, pain, redness, swelling, or an unusual odor or discharge.
Change the dressing according to institution protocol, or when the barrier properties have been compromised. Removal: Gently grasp an edge and slowly peel the dressing from the skin in the direction of hair growth. Avoid skin trauma by peeling the dressing back, rather than pulling it up from the skin. Storage and Shelf Life: For best results, store in a cool, dry place. For shelf life, refer to the expiration date which is printed on each package

Stop any bleeding at the site before applying the dressing
Do not stretch the dressing during application as tension can cause skin trauma
Make sure the skin is dry and free of soap residue and lotion to prevent skin irritation and to ensure good adhesion
The dressing may be used on an infected site only when under the care of a health care professional

Warnings:

Do not use the dressing as a replacement for sutures and other primary wound closure methods
